Are your headlights in sync?
Jul 19th, 2010 at 2:38am

Question for yall.....Do your headlights come up together, or is one faster than the other. I just installed two new actuator valves. It was a success! but, was wondering if there is a way to get 'em in sync with each other..

Bill, mine do not open in sync.  The left one opens a little faster than the right.  Since all parts are still original, it could be due to age. Wink

Mine do the same thing. I always wonder when the the passenger one will give up the ghost, but it just keeps on working. all the vacume lines look good.  Undecided

The headlights should come up together in sync. I rebuilt mine about five years ago and the worked perfectly in sync and quite fast. They could sit 20 minutes with the engine off and have enough vacuum to raise them once.

Now you ask? Nah, passenger side is slower. I plan on a full test of the system soon to find the leak.

Scott, is that the reason the passenger side would be slower?  Mine has been slower for as long as I can remember, but other that than they work fine.

Yes. there is a leak somewhere. Most likely at the actuator. The actuator at the time cost 100 bucks rebuilt. The kit was cheap like 10-20 bucks. So, I rebuilt mine. It was EXTREMELY easy to do. I will never have my actuators rebuilt it was so easy and cheap to do myself!!!!  Smiley

I have a very nice tool that makes a vacuum so I do not have to run my engine to work on the vacuum system. Got it off craigslist a while back. A guy bought an electric  vacuum pump  and made it to work on his vette but then sold the vette!

The tool is ugle, heavy, and a pita to mess with but man it works great!!  LOL!

Since I did my engine swap I have had a tiny leak somewhere. I never worked on it knowing I was going to swap my airconditioning and likely create leaks there too. So, now the work is done, guess I should find and fix my leak!!

Lastly, don't forget the "One Way" inline vacuum check valve just off the manifold. You can replace it for 6 bucks at NAPA if perfect stock is not an issue or 30 bucks at ecklers . . . Wink

My lights dont come up together either.  I dont remember which one leads and which one lags.  I hardly ever drive my car at night because those old style headlights are terrible.

On my 77 the left comes up before the right, and I am ok with that. The 73 which I converted to electric both at the same time, every time. I just don't get all the hype on which on comes up first, in sync, whatever. As long as they come up at all is the main issue...............jack

Jack, I tend to agree.  I usually am not watching them come up.  Just want lights when they do. Grin  Does seems most of us have the same condition, based on post seems left goes up first. Wink

My r/h light goes up/down first which seems different to everyone else but it is the drivers side so really it's the same Smiley
2 new actuators, new lines ,new switches but still the same as before.
I have been thinking of zip tying the lines to the vac tank to see if that helps.

I bought mine new- May - 33 years ago and as I recall, they were pretty much in sync. Now, on any given night, sometimes the left is approx 3 or 4 seconds faster than the right and then the right is 3 or 4 seconds faster than the left. I haven't tried to figure it out as long as they both come up.

Short answer, they are not in sync.......Thomas
